Headbands of Hope

Today I would like to talk to you about an awesome local philanthropy that I stumbled upon the other day. While at Clothes Hound dropping off some new jewels, I noticed some awesome sparkly headbands in the corner that I just had to check out. Little did I know, they brought a whole new meaning to the headband world.

Headbands of Hope is a organization started by a local North Carolina State University student named Jessica Ekstrom. An awesome company which allows you as the customer to give back every time you buy a headband. With each headband purchase, one girl who is suffering from cancer gets a free headband as well as $1 dollar of your purchase is donated to the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Roll Pack

I had originally had another post written for today but I just had to share a great story that happened Saturday at my alma maters basketball game. North Carolina State University is currently ranked #20 in basketball right now and yesterday we played the #1 ranked school Duke University and believe or not, WE WON. It was such an amazing win and I'm so happy for the team, but I was more impressed with the actions of the team after the game rather during.

A local senior at NCSU was sitting court side at the game, in his wheelchair. Will Privette has been in a wheelchair most of his life due to health issues that resulted in both legs to be amputated. So upon the last few minutes of the game and the results looking like NCSU was going to defeat Duke, the student body president asked Will if he would like to rush the court before anyone else. Of course, being an avid fan Will accepted and they did just that. If you were able to watch the game yesterday, that was Will in his wheelchair!

Anyways, while it was cool to see him rush the court he didn't realize it was probably super dangerous for him. During all the hustle and bustle Will was knocked over and out of his wheelchair, laying helplessly on the floor trying to protect himself from being stomped on.

Out of the corner of CJ Leslie (#5, junior forward for the Pack) eyes he saw Will on the ground and immediately took action clearing everyone out of the way so he could pick Will up off the floor. Cradling Will like a baby CJ carried him around the court and celebrated with the rest of the crowd!

Here is CJ and Will (located in the lower left-hand corner with glasses)
After all the craziness Will is doing just fine and admits it was a pretty stupid move on his part, but he will now be known by everyone across the country as the "man in the wheelchair that rushed the court"

Here is a youtube video of all the action!!

Last, but not least there are shirts for pre-sale in honor of Will!
Get one while you can if you are a Wolfpack fan! I know I will be purchasing one!!

Porkie, the coolest strip of Bacon ever.

For Christmas this year Mason, Adair and I decided to do a mini gift exchange a few days before Christmas and oh my was I so excited with the gifts I received. Especially, Porkie the strip of bacon.

Now before I unleash the adventures of Porkie, I owe you all an explanation because I know you are probably thinking I'm a little weird right now.

I love Bacon, like really love it. It seriously makes everything better. Every girls night dinner my friends and I have had I usually end up with something that contains bacon in the recipe. I absolutely love it. So it naturally has become the on-going joke between me and my friends about my love for Bacon.

So for Christmas, Mason made my gifts a bacon theme. First I opened my awesome new Bacon recipe book:
Fifty Shades of Bacon and yes it's a totally resembles Fifty Shades of Grey
As a joke, she then gave me a little Bacon strip figurine, who I dubbed "Porkie".
Here are some adventures that Porkie has been on the past few weeks.

Hanging out at Uniquities
Pooles Diner

Rum Runners

Tabacco Road

The Flying Biscuit

Do you think I'm weird yet? I honestly think I'm pretty hilarious....

The Juice Craze

Today I linked up with Jean and the rest of her blog hop team for Aloha Friday Blog Hop!
www.whatjeanlikes.com
One of the things that made me want to start being healthy again was the latest craze of juicing. Now I know I'm probably super late on this trend, but I seriously am so excited to get started. Some of my favorite Instagram celebrities have showing off their latest juice creations and I had to try some for myself.

A very good friend of mine from New Jersey is the ultimate juicer. While she is originally a Jersey girl at heart, she also has family from California and lived on the West Coast for a few years before residing to NC. So she obsessed with juicing. She says it balance her whole body in and out!

Ironically a man based out Raleigh has started a juicing company called "Humdinger Juice". My friend tried it and says it's really delicious and reasonably well priced. As well he will make a delivery to your house or arrange for a pick up locally!

Do any of you juice?? I'm dying to know what you think of it!

Goals for 2013

In hopes of keeping myself on track I decided to compile a list of goals for the up and coming year. I'm going to need all the help I can get!!! haha

  1. Lose weight: I know this is something everyone strives for as a resolution in the new year, but I need to make some big moves in this department.
  2. Buy a new car: This has been a goal for a couple of years now and was getting pretty close to possible until I got laid off with my job.
  3. Save money: I tend to buy things that aren't really necessary, and I tend to this quite often
  4. Look for the good in all things: self-explanatory
  5. Organize my life: Right now I have stuff all over the place at home, I need to regroup once my house is done getting redone and then get to work.
  6. Expand Lucy and Me Jewelry: I have some crazy ideas in my head that I would love to do with my brand as a whole, maybe this is the year to make them come true.
  7. Run a half-marathon: This has seriously been on my New Years Resolution list for the past 3 years, and I'm determined to make it happen.
Well there you have it blogger friends! Do you have any goals for 2013? If so, what are they? I'd love to hear!
